The problem we saw

Most home services agencies don’t actually know contractors.

Here’s the thing. We sat in on a lot of agency pitches before we started Viral Spark. The pattern was always the same — slick deck, generic case studies from a real estate firm in Phoenix, a pricing sheet that didn’t mention the words “pool,” “shingle,” or “paver” once.

Meanwhile we were talking to actual pool builders in Alpharetta, landscapers in Cumming, and roofers in Marietta who’d been burned twice by agencies that promised “we work with everyone.” They’d shown up to a discovery call and immediately had to explain what a saltwater chlorinator was, or why a paver patio with a seat wall is a $40K conversation and not a $4K one.

You can’t write good ad copy for a $90K pool if you’ve never watched one get poured. You can’t shoot social content for a roofer if you’ve never been on a tear-off in 95-degree humidity. Niche depth isn’t a buzzword for us — it’s the entire reason we exist. The contractor-hating agency model needed someone to come along and quietly fix it.

Real talk

The home services industry is the largest underserved market in marketing. Roughly $600B/yr in revenue split across hundreds of thousands of contractors — almost all served by agencies that don’t speak the language. We started Viral Spark because contractors deserve a partner who shows up to the job site, not just to the Zoom call.

So we built the opposite of a generalist agency. We picked six contractor niches we know cold. We capped client count per city per niche so we never sit on both sides of a fence. And we put our own crews on the ground in North Atlanta shooting real work, instead of buying stock photos of pools that were built in Florida.

How Viral Spark started

This started in a contractor’s truck, not a co-working space.

The short version. The founder spent his early years on residential construction sites — first as a kid running deliveries with his dad, later helping run marketing for a regional builder. The agencies that builder hired were a parade of disappointment. Pretty websites that nobody could find on Google. Lead-gen “campaigns” that funneled the same shared Angi leads everyone else was already paying for. Reports built to look impressive at the end of the month and explain nothing.

The pivot came after one specific call. A pool builder in North Atlanta — eight years in business, doing solid work, slow on inbound — had been with three different agencies in five years. Each one had taken his money, given him a “modern website,” and quietly reduced his organic traffic. By the time we sat down, he was paying $4,200/month for HomeAdvisor leads he was closing 7% of. He didn’t need a fourth agency. He needed someone who’d actually owned the problem.

So we drew the lines. Build the infrastructure, not rent it. Pick the niches we already knew. Cap clients per market so we’d never sit across the table from someone we were also competing against. Stop pretending marketing is magic and just do the boring, repeatable work that compounds.
