Common Questions, Honest Answers
Everything you want to know about working with Kaizenscapes — before you pick up the phone.
Yes — every project starts with a free on-site consultation. We visit your property, assess the site conditions, and talk through what you're trying to accomplish before we propose anything. We don't do phone estimates because the site conditions matter too much to guess at from a description.
We serve homeowners within approximately 35 miles of Canton and Woodstock, GA. That includes all of Cherokee County, Cobb County, and communities across the North Atlanta suburbs — Alpharetta, Roswell, Milton, Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth, Cumming, Johns Creek, Ball Ground, Holly Springs, East Cobb, Sandy Springs, and more. If you're unsure, give us a call — we'll let you know quickly.
You don't need to prepare anything beyond showing us the space and telling us how you'd like to use it. If you have photos of styles you like, those help the conversation. If you have survey documents or site plans, bring those — but they're not required. We take measurements and photographs during the visit.
Most consultations take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the project. We'd rather take the time to understand the site fully than rush through and miss something important.
Project duration depends heavily on scope. A single paver patio can be completed in two to four days. A full hardscape transformation — retaining walls, patio, driveway, masonry features — typically runs two to four weeks depending on site complexity and weather. We give realistic timelines at proposal and update you if conditions change.
For projects that require permits — certain retaining walls, structural masonry, electrical work for outdoor lighting, pool installations — we handle the permit process. We'll identify during the consultation whether your project requires permitting and factor that into the timeline.
Not necessarily. We'll coordinate access with you before the project starts. Most homeowners aren't present during the workday but we communicate regularly with progress updates and flag any questions that need your input before we proceed.
Weather delays are part of outdoor construction in Georgia, especially during spring and summer. We build realistic buffers into timelines and communicate any weather-related delays promptly. We never rush work to hit a deadline at the cost of installation quality — base preparation and concrete work have specific curing requirements that we don't shortcut regardless of schedule pressure.
You choose the materials with our guidance. We work with a wide range of paver manufacturers, natural stone suppliers, and masonry materials. During the design phase we'll show you options that fit the project scope and your aesthetic preferences, explain the performance differences between them, and give you honest input on what holds up best in North Georgia's specific conditions.
Hardscaping refers to the permanent structural elements of an outdoor space — retaining walls, patios, driveways, steps, masonry features, outdoor kitchens, pools, and water features. Landscaping refers to the organic elements — sod, plants, trees, grading, and erosion control. We do both, and we design them to work together. The hardscape is typically installed first because it establishes the grade relationships and drainage paths that determine where everything else goes.
Both. We assess existing hardscape for structural integrity and determine whether repair, partial replacement, or full replacement is the right approach. We don't recommend replacement when repair is a legitimate option — and we'll tell you honestly which situation you're in.
Often yes, but not always. Manufactured pavers and natural stone vary by production run and quarry source, which means exact matches aren't guaranteed. We work with our suppliers to get as close as possible and present your options honestly before committing to work that depends on a match.
Pricing is based on the specific scope of work, materials selected, site conditions, and labor requirements for your project. We provide detailed written proposals that break down what's included so you know exactly what you're getting. We don't do vague estimates — you should know what you're paying for before you commit.
Material quality, base preparation depth, crew experience, and what's actually included in the scope are the most common sources of price variation. A lower quote that skips proper base preparation, uses thinner paver formats, or doesn't include edge restraint and polymeric sand will produce a lower-quality result that needs repair or replacement sooner. We're happy to explain our proposal line by line so you can make a fair comparison.
Yes, we require a deposit to schedule and mobilize for a project. The deposit amount and payment schedule are outlined in our written contract. We'll walk you through it before you sign anything.
Concrete pavers are low-maintenance but not no-maintenance. Polymeric sand joints should be refreshed every four to six years depending on weed pressure and joint wear. A light cleaning with a paver cleaner and garden hose handles most staining. Sealing is optional but extends the life of the polymeric sand and protects the surface color. We'll walk you through the maintenance specifics for your installation at the final walkthrough.
We stand behind our work. We provide a workmanship warranty on our installations — if something fails due to an installation error, we come back and fix it. Material warranties are governed by the manufacturer. We'll explain the warranty terms specific to your project in your written contract.
Call us. We want to know about any issues with our work and we respond to warranty claims promptly. Our goal is a long-term relationship with the homeowners we work with — that means we're accountable after the crew leaves.
